The UT - Blount County Agricultural Extension Service is an educational
organization that brings research-based knowledge in agriculture and home
economics directly to individuals, families and communities.
Extension programs are offered through educational opportunities by personal
contacts, seminars, workshops, tours, meetings, classes, mass media, computer
application, publication, and newsletters.
Extension is many things to many people:
- 4-H Youth Development - the
teaching of life skills through projects such as citizenship, leadership,
personal development, public speaking and numerous other areas.
- Production Agriculture and
Natural Resources - agriculture is big business in Blount County; and the
extension service strives to teach sound management practice that will
improve production.
- Strengthening Families -
families are the foundation of society. Extension Home Economics programs
teach parenting skills, improved nutrition, and managing family finances.
- Environmental Stewardship -
Blount County's greatest assets are its beauty and its natural resources.
We want to protect these. Programs are conducted to maintain a high level
of environmental stewardship.
