2019 Summer Reading Program: A Universe of Stories

Through Monday, July 29:  “2019 Summer Reading Challenge Program:  A Universe of Stories.”  Throughout the summer, in addition to reading, there will be weekly events and activities for all ages, emphasizing the theme.
Dates for the three age groups are
  • Children: Tuesday, May 28 through Saturday, July 27
  • Teens: Tuesday, May 28 through Saturday, July 27
  • Adult: Tuesday, May 28 through Monday, July 29
The 2019 Summer Reading Program is open to all ages, preschool through adult. Everyone can have fun reading and doing activities to win prizes! There will be programs, story times, a music club and more. All programs are at no cost.  Look for the library’s newsletter for June and July with more publicity describing events and activities or go to the library’s website calendar for details.  Summer Reading 2019 is sponsored by the Blount County Friends of the Library.

Children and Teens
, get your Challenge Logs in the Children’s Library at the Youth Services Desk.
  • Saturday, July 27, 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., “Children’s Summer Reading Finale Bash.” Celebrate another fabulous and fun-filled summer with crafts, music and special guests, including a Frisbee mini-golf course and other life-size games. Bring your Summer Challenge Logs for a last chance to pick up your great summer reading prizes. Join the party in the Children’s Library and adjoining Main Gallery area.
  • Saturday, July 27, 1:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., “Teen Summer Finale Bash: A Universe of Arts.” Showcase your talents and your passions at a combination art show/open mic/karaoke bash. We’ll hand out prizes for the Summer Reading Challenge, as well as prizes for the “Universe of Art” showcase. There will, of course, be snacks. Join the party in the Sharon Lawson Room.
Adults, get your materials at Adult Services in the Reference Area or the Patron Services Desks in the Main Gallery.
  • Tic-Tac-Toe returns with an all new set of goals for this year’s summer reading. 1) Pick up Tic-Tac-Toe card at the Adult Services Desk in the Reference Area or Patron Services Desk in the Main Gallery. You may enter multiple times. 2) Read, listen or watch three items per Tic-Tac-Toe card and fill in the card. 3) Validate the card at the Information Services Desk to enter weekly and Grand Prize drawings. 4) Weekly prizes will be awarded on Friday afternoons. The Grand Prize for Adults will be awarded at 6:15 p.m. before the Shakespeare play on Monday, July 29.
