Blount County Highway Department Postpones Public Meetings

Today, the Blount County Highway Department announced that two previously scheduled public meetings have been postponed.

The first meeting postponed was scheduled on March 23rd to discuss citizens’ concerns around the Walker Road area in Blount County.

The second meeting was scheduled for April 9th and revolved around the planned improvements to be made to Morganton Road. This meeting would have also included an update on the North Springview Bridge which was recently closed due to safety concerns.

These postponements are due to world events affecting the gathering of large groups of people.

Highway Superintendent Jeff Headrick noted, “While these meetings were scheduled to address very important matters, the safety and welfare of our citizens are the most immediate issues we face at this moment.”

These public meetings will be rescheduled when it is safe to allow all the stakeholders to attend.  When they are rescheduled, there will be a public notice of the new dates, times and places of these meetings.

Morganton Road

Blount County and the City of Maryville have partnered with the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration to embark on a planning process to result in the improvement of approximately 2.3 miles of Morganton Road from it’s intersection with Foothills Mall Drive to the intersection of William Blount Drive.

The Blount County Highway Department in concert with the City of Maryville and in cooperation with the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration is taking the first step toward improving Morganton Road from Foothills Mall Drive to William Blount Drive. As discussed in our Public Meeting (9-13-18), you will begin to see members of our professional design team conducting field investigations in the project area. They may be on your property. We are asking for your understanding in allowing this work to be accomplished. We do not expect this work to be destructive. Any/all sampling sites will be restored to their present condition. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Mowing Schedule
We will be mowing and trimming Morganton, Wildwood and the Tuckaleechee area roads today. Please be aware and use caution when approaching our mowing crews.
Drone Program
The Highway Department is proud to announce our new "Drone Program". Our pilots are FAA certified commercial UAV operators.

These state of the art Drones have been invaluable in the assistance of obtaining video and images from the past few storms we have had in our area and allow us to see critical areas that we have never been able to see before.

We now have the ability to see road issues, storm water concerns, flooding issues and erosion problems in a way that we were previously unable to see thus allowing us to pre-plan repairs before they become dangerous and thereby better serve the citizens of our beautiful county.
