The Sheriff's Citizen's Academy is a course designed to expose citizens to many different aspects of law enforcement. During this 12 week course, participants learn about the day-to-day operations of the Blount County Sheriff's Office.
Participants hear many presentations from Sheriff James Lee Berrong, Sheriff's detectives, Crime Scene Investigators, Patrol Officers, Drug Task Force Investigators, as well as see demonstrations by our SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) team, K-9 Unit, and CERT (Corrections Emergency Response) team.
The objectives of the Sheriff's Citizen's Academy is to increase communication and build trust and understanding between the Sheriff's Office and members of the community, as well as to make our participants better informed, and share their knowledge and insight with other members of the community. Citizen's Academy is offered in the spring. Participants must be 18 years of age to participate.
