Alternative livestock watering systems are designed to provide an alternative to watering livestock directly from streams or creeks which may ultimately lead to eroding stream banks caused by hoof action. Typically one or more watering facilities which may consist of freeze-proof tanks, “tire” tanks, or concrete tanks, are strategically placed in conjunction with cross-fencing as part of a rotational grazing program. Regardless of which type of watering facility is chosen, the tanks should be surrounded by a heavy use area which consists of geo-textile fabric and ½ inch crusher-run gravel. This allows livestock to stand upon a mud free area while gaining access to fresh, clean water.
